The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) founded the Urban Youth Golf Program with seed money from the Amateur Athletic Foundation (now LA84 Foundation) and officially launched it in the spring of 1989. The flagship youth golf initiative was created specifically to bring golf to youth who were not liekly to be introduced to the sport. In 1999, the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce Charity Foundation acquired the program from the LPGA. In 2009, the program joined The First Tee Network and began operating as The First Tee of Los Angeles. Since its inception, tens of thousands of children have participated in its numerous programs and classes; and more than 2500 enroll every year.
